A heart-warming tale of being yourself, Hairspray explores stereotypes, racial segregation and massive hair in 1962 Baltimore. "You can't stop my happiness, 'cuz I like the way I am. And you just can't stop my knife and fork when I see a Christmas ham! And if you don't like the way I look, then I just don't give a damn!" Based on the cult 80's film directed by John Waters, Hairspray is set in 1962 in Baltimore.
Tracy Turnbald, the big haired, 'pleasantly plump' heroine, doesn't fit in with her teenage peers. Until she wins a spot on local dance programme, The Corny Collins Show and suddenly has the chance to fulfill her lifelong ambition - to dance. Young Tracy is a massive hit on the show and is transformed from loner to teen sensation overnight.
